“New information tonight about a fatal collision between a
CATS bus and a Concord cyclist. Police tonight told me their
investigation so far indicates the bus driver was at fault.
That tonight in this latest report obtained by WBTV. It
indicates the bus driver ‘failed to yield right of way’ on
Tryon Street in a crash that killed Todd Weaver.
“Tonight his brother tells me he’s putting his life on hold
. . . to make sure Todd’s isn’t forgotten.

“Two weeks after the crash that killed a Concord husband
and father of two, police are still working to see if they’ll
ask the D.A. to seek charges. It adds frustration to a family’s pain.
“‘I think in this case people need to be held accountable
for what happened.’
“Mark Weaver has a wife, a job, and seven
kids of his own in Ohio. But he’s here in Charlotte...
“‘Ultimately... what I’m trying to do is make sure Todd
didn’t die in vain.’
“He’s meeting, and working with local cyclists who knew and loved his brother. [Pel Deal, Cyclist:] ‘He was probably one of the nicest people you’d ever meet. He was always happy.’
“They share a common bond: Their love for Todd Weaver. And their desire to make Charlotte’s streets safer for cyclists and pedestrians.
“‘Obviously Charlotte’s streets were not safe for cyclists October 14 of this year. No, they’re not safe.’
“Mark Weaver knows whatever happens nothing will bring his brother back. Not for him or Todd’s friends. Not for Todd’s wife Pam or their kids Brady and Elizabeth. But he’s not giving up.
“‘I’m not after a pound of flesh in any of this. I just think that people need to be held accountable.’

“I called Jerry Miller’s house tonight—the CATS bus driver involved in the crash. I hope to hear back from him.
“Tests for drugs and alcohol came back negative.
“The fatal wreck October 14 was the second collision Miller was in that day. CATS’ records show he’d been in five preventable accidents since 2001.”
From recorded broadcast, October 28, 2005.
