Pam, please add me to the list of people who considered Todd their best friend. My life, like many others, has been changed forever, and my memories of Todd will last a lifetime. What a wonderful testimony he leaves behind. You, the family he loved so dearly, and the friends he made everywhere he went.

Thunder Road Marathon

December 3, 2005

Brady (pale yellow jacket at right) greets me (in gold shirt) at the 13.1 mile mark in front of the Dowd YMCA.

Just after the water station at mile 16 and near the Charlotte Panthers’ Ericsson Stadium. I’ve just returned from my two-mile detour to the site of Todd’s accident, so I’m on mile 18. You can’t see it from this picture, but my shirt reads “www.Run4Todd.com”, the site set up to collect donations for the support of Todd’s children, Brady and Elizabeth. We raised nearly $800 through the site.

Brady returns to the family after running a few blocks with me down Trade Street.

Almost done! I wave to Brady just before the finish line. Instead of simply waving back, he runs with me through the finish line. Samuel ran with me the final half mile, after having run five miles with me in the middle of the race, including the visit to the accident site.

Samuel, me, and Brady after 28 miles and nearly five hours of running. Brady wears the Thunder Road Marathon finisher’s medal.

Brady and I with members of Todd’s cycling club, the Rank Riders: Tom, Mark, Jon, and Greg. These guys were just fantastic, accompanying me for more than half of the run. They escorted me down Tryon Street when I left the confines of the marked course to run to the accident site, provided a helpful distraction riding along side of me when I started to sag, and showed up at various points on the course to offer an ecouraging cheer. Thanks, guys!
