A few days before his father’s death, ten-year-old Brady
Weaver was given a writing assignment in school on “who
inspires you?” The story below is what he wrote.
Lighting My Way
My dad has helped inspire me in my life. My dad helps me
with school, and he teaches me all about football. My dad
and I like to spend time together.
My dad helps me with school. My dad helps me do my
homework. He also helps me study for spelling tests and
learn vocabulary words. He helps me do better in math. Last
year he even got practice questions off the internet to help
me pass my end of grade test in math.
My dad teaches me all about football. Last year he took
me to a Georgia Tech football game, and we got to throw the
ball back and forth on the field. We got to meet all the
players while we watched the highlight films with them.
After meeting the players we thought about Elizabeth and
bought her a Yellow Jacket bobble head that she loves. He
also let me sign-up to play football. He takes me to
practices and games. I know if I get marks on my behavior
card then he won’t let me play football. I want to play
football in college so I try to behave in school.
My dad and I like to spend time together. We go to Lowe’s
for lumber, and I help him with yard work all the time. I
like to help him build things like the shed and the
playground in my back yard. Mostly, I like to play football
with my dad on the street in front of the house.
My dad inspires me because he likes to spend time with
me. I am better in school and love football because of my
dad.
